The correct medical term for Attention Deficit Disorder is ADHD. There are 3 subtypes of ADHD: Predominantly inattentive, Predominantly hyperactive-impulsive, and Combined. Through out this newsletter and the ADHD relates sites linked in this newsletter the terms ADHD, AD/HD, and ADD are used interchangeably.
Taking a Break!

One thing that's quite common for many of my ADHD Coaching clients is that they are very resistant to taking breaks or taking time off. Many people with ADHD have the mind set that they have to complete a challenging task or project before taking a break or taking time off. The truth is that taking breaks actually helps people get through those daunting and challenging tasks.
It's very important to add time off or breaks into your life! Like Judi Jerome mentioned in her ADHD and Mindfulness Teleseminar in April a break can be taking just a few minutes to breath. Or as Diane Ladd mentioned in her ADDing Focus Teleseminar earlier this month taking a break can involve taking a 30 minute walk outside and connecting with nature.
There are also longer breaks like vacations from work. Since I like to practice what I preach I have decided to take a planned break. I'm taking the month of July off from offering free Teleseminars through ADDClasses.com. I won't be taking the entire month of July off since I will be speaking at the ADDA Conference and will still be running ADD Coaching Programs. However, I will be significantly reducing my work load and enjoying time off
with family and friends.
What type of breaks do you take?

Featured Living with ADD Story
I am a 31 year old male from Birmingham, England. Although I have not been diagnosed with ADHD/ADD Over 20 years ago my parents were fed up to the back teeth with my behavioural problems that I had brain tests which came back negative for any disorder (my uncle had severe autism) but I had to go to a behavioural psychologist who suggested things like - Putting a chart on the wall for each day saying when I had been good or bad and at the end of the week i would get rewarded if I had been good - this OBVIOUSLY did not work as Id forgotten about the chart within minutes.
Ever since I was young I have been hyperactive, fidgety, unable to concentrate generally, was very poor at in class, very easily distracted, had short tempered rages, always in trouble in primary (first) school for being disruptive, I am very loving and feel the need to be loved like I need hugs often, I run around up and down the stairs to get to my destination without realising it, I start tidying only to rearrange or transfer where I put the mess and not actually put it away, I forget to complete things people ask me to do and my thoughts get scrambled throughout the day, etc. I remember songs but never remember an artist or band name, unless it's ABBA, QUEEN or the Beetles which are REALLY obvious.
